GFS Girls Cross Country Wins State Championship

The GFS cross-country program came home with a pair of victories at the PAISAA State Meet on Saturday, October 26th at Belmont Plateau. The girls' team won their 3rd consecutive championship with 55 points over GA (60 points) thanks to a pack effort.

The GFS cross-country program came home with a pair of victories at the PAISAA State Meet on Saturday, October 26th at Belmont Plateau. The girls' team won their 3rd consecutive championship with 55 points over GA (60 points) thanks to a pack effort. The Varsity boys' team finished with a respectable 3rd place finish behind the efforts of a young and talented team. Additionally, a young and improving JV boys' team dominated their race with 16 points to  earn  their 7th consecutive JV championship.

Captains Brigit Andersson (8th, 20:33) and Alison Love (9th, 20:35) led the Tigers to their championship win. Caitlin Harrity (10th, 20:41), Arielle Frank (12th, 20:51), and Alice Wistar (16th, 21:09) rounded out the top 5 scorers for GFS. Griffin Kaulbach (17th, 21:21) and Cece Dye (20th, 21:40) each medaled to place 7 Tigers in the top 20. 

Freshman Nick Dahl led the way for GFS with a 5th place overall finish in 17:00 Sophomores Grayson Hepp (11th, 17:20) and Gordon Goldstein (16th, 17:31) each set personal bests. James Finney (18th, 17:34), and Joe Newmann (21st, 17:43) closed out the scoring for the Tigers. Andy Bugos (23rd, 18:01) and Peter Jarka-Sellers (31st, 18:25) rounded out the varsity 7. 

In the JV boys' race, sophomores Calvin McCafferty (1st, 18:09) and Zach Schwartz (2nd 18:29) set the tone going 1-2 overall. Junior Ethan Jones and Freshman Daniel Stassen ran 18:32 and 18:35 respectively to finish 3rd and 4th while Sophomore Bix Komita Moussa placed 7th overall in 18:46 to close out the scoring. Seniors Cameron Dichter (9th, 18:51) and Duncan Gallagher (13th, 19:17) each set new personal bests on the day to  complete  the team effort.
